3 Days 2 Nights Special Off-road Sightseeing Tour

Follow the trail of the troops of King Naresuan the Great. A historical temple tour through the north-west of Chiang Mai, Chiang Dao and Mae Hong Son provinces including Pai. More than 40kms off-road through mountainous jungle on adventurous roads. On the way back take a rest in the mineral water of "Pong Duead" hot-spring.

Pick up from hotel or guesthouse: 08:30 - 09:30 h.

Back in Chiang Mai at about 17:00 h

Tour itinerary

First day:

Drive on Route 107 to Wat Mae Kacharn also known as Wat Phrathat Jorm Jaeng. In ancient times King Mengrai placed relics of the Buddha in this temple. There King Naresuan gathered the troops of his Lanna army to prepare for travel. We will vist the camp site of King Naresuan. After we will drive to Ban Muang Guet to see a tree called "Sri Maha Phot" King Naresuan planted 400 years ago.
After that we will follow the Mae Taeng river through forests and hill-tribe villages of the Karen and Lahu tribes to Ban Muang Korn of Chiang Dao province where we will have lunch.
After lunch we will drive off-road through mountainous jungle for about 23kms or 2 hours to Wiang Haeng. There we will see the Chedi Saen Hai, the most important sight of Wiang Haeng. There King Naresuan had a camp site and he died there. Wiang Haeng is enclosed by mountains and borders with Shan State of Myanmar. We will have dinner and stay overnight at Ban Suan Resort.

Second day:

At first will go to Luk Daeng border crossing which was closed down in 2002. Then we will drive off-road for about 20kms or 1.5 hours to Pai, On the way we will stop at viewpoints where you will have great views of the mountains and into Myanmar. We will also visit the Kiu Pha Wark cliff and Wat Phrathat Mae Yen with a big Buddha image. We will have lunch in Pai. In the afternoon we will visit Wat Nam Hu, an historical place where King Naresuan and Princess Supangalaya once were and Ban Santichon, a village where people from Yunnan in China are living. Then we will go to Pai canyon to see the sunset. From there we will go to Ban Krating Pai Hotel and have dinner. There we will stay overnight. Later you can visit the night market.

Third day:

After breakfast we will go to see the misty mountains at a place called "Pai in Love" and "Coffee in Love" having a break there. From there you will have great views of the mountains and the historical Pai bridge built during World War 2 by the Japanese army. Then we will drive to Pong Dueat hot spring. You can take a bath in hot mineral water, drink something or just browse around there. After that we will return to Chiang Mai.
