Chiang Rai, Golden Triangle
Chiang Mai, Thailand

This tour is similar to Tour 6, but without the visit of the Long-neck Karen and instead a visit of the Black Lahu hill-tribe village a visit of a Yao village

This tour leaves every day from Chiang Mai.

Payment has to be made at least one day before the departure of the tour. We can visit you at your hotel or guest-house to collect the payment. Alternatively you could go to the office of Buddy Tours.

Pick-up time at your hotel or guest-house is about 07:00 to 07:30 h.

This tour goes to Chiang Rai, about 180 kms north of Chiang Mai. We use an air-conditioned van for transport. On the way to Chiang Rai we will make a stopover at Mae Kachan hot springs.

Then we will drive to the ancient city of Chiang Saen where we visit Chiang Saen National Museum and an ancient temple.

The Chiang Saen National Museum is situated at the ancient city of Chiang Saen, one of the most important cities of the Lanna Kingdom, amidst large numbers of archaeological sites, both prehistoric and historic periods.

The main purpose of the collection is to emphasize history, art and archaeology related to human settlement, tools and equipment from prehistoric down to historic periods.

The exhibit can be divided into 3 sections:

First Section presents:
The location and history of settlement at Chiang Saen, Stucco from Wat Pa Sak, Lanna Buddha images in Chiang Saen style, Stone inscriptions, northern Thai ceramics in Chiang Rai and other related ceramics.

Second Section presents:
Important monuments in Chiang Saen and excavation and renovation of ancient monuments in Chiang Saen and also its surrounding area.

Third Section presents:
The Mekong River, religious objects, folk art of the northern minority groups in Chiang Rai, such as Tai Yuan, Tai Yai, Tai Lue and various hill-tribes.

From there we will drive to the famous "Golden Triangle" where Burma, Laos and Thailand have a common border. Then we will drive to Mae Sai, a bordertown with Burma for shopping.

Lunch will be a Thai buffet lunch.

After lunch we will visit villages of the Yao and Akha hill-tribes.

We will be back in Chiang Mai at about 21:00 hours.
